Description

Bartlesville Civic Ballet presents: A Minkus Gala- Ballet Excerpts from Composer Ludwig Minkus, including Paquita, La Bayadere and Don Quixote. -La Bayadere tells the story of the temple dancer Nikiya, who is in love with the warrior Solar. Nikiya is poisoned by her rival and dies in Solor’s arms. Heartbroken, he falls into a delirious sleep and dreams of the Kingdom of Shades, where he and Nikiya represented by a procession of ghostly shades, are reunited in eternity. -Paquita takes place during Napoleon’s occupation in Spain and tells the tale of Paquita, the heroine. Although abducted by Romani people as a young child, she was of noble birth. Early in the story she saves a French officer’s (Lucien) life from the Spanish government, who had sent an assassin, Inigo, to kill him. Naturally they fall in love, although their social ranks keep them from being together. Through a series of dramatic events, Paquita comes to learn of her true identity and ultimately is able to marry Lucien. Alexandria Heath and Henry Griffin from Boston Ballet will be our featured artists, along with our local Bartlesville Civic Ballet dancers.
